About PAT Testing
PAT testing (portable appliance testing) checks plugs, leads and portable equipment for faults that a fixed-wire EICR does not cover. Icomply deliver PAT testing for offices, warehouses, schools, furnished lets and facilities teams across Stockport, Greater Manchester and the North West—with asset labels, pass/fail outcomes and a digital-friendly register for your health and safety file.
Appliances are classed, visually inspected and instrument-tested, then labelled with clear pass or fail status and listed in a register you can store with H&S and insurance records. Failed items are isolated from use with practical next steps—repair, replace or remove. Frequency follows risk assessment rather than a single legal annual date; many workplaces still test yearly for simplicity. We work section by section to limit desk downtime and can combine PAT with EICR visits on multi-service compliance days for agents and FM teams.
- ●Formal visual and instrument checks on portable equipment
- ●Pass/fail labels applied on site
- ●Asset register suitable for audits and insurers
- ●Risk-based retest intervals agreed with you

PAT Testing FAQ
Is PAT testing a legal annual requirement?+
Law requires electrical equipment to be maintained so it is safe; frequency follows risk assessment rather than one universal date. Many workplaces still test yearly for simplicity and audit comfort.
Do you test microwave leakage or only electrical safety?+
Standard PAT focuses on electrical safety of the appliance and flex. Specialist microwave leakage tests can be discussed if your risk assessment requires them.
Can staff remain at their desks during testing?+
Brief power-downs are needed per item. We work section by section to limit disruption and can prioritise critical workstations first.
Is PAT the same as an EICR?+
No. PAT covers portable appliances; an EICR covers fixed installation wiring. Landlords and employers often need both under a wider electrical safety programme.
