For most BS 5839-1 systems the interval between inspection and servicing visits should not exceed six months. The responsible person on site still runs the weekly call-point test. We check the panel, standby power, a sample of devices, and interfaces where they can be tested without an unsafe plant shutdown. Defects are written up so repairs can be authorised separately from the planned visit. Domestic BS 5839-6 systems are maintained to the grade and category already installed.
