We survey the building, confirm zone boundaries, create clear laminated or framed charts and fix them adjacent to the control panel as expected under BS 5839 practice. When you add walls, tenants or detectors we revise the chart as part of the variation works. Fire Alarm Zone Chart FAQ
Is a zone chart a legal requirement?+
BS 5839 expects suitable zone information at the control equipment so the origin of alarms can be identified quickly. Missing or wrong charts are a common inspection defect.
Can you update charts without rewiring?+
Yes. If zoning is correct we redraw and replace the chart only. If zoning is wrong we quote remedial works separately.
Do addressable systems still need charts?+
Yes. Device text helps, but a clear plan at the panel remains best practice for fire crews and unfamiliar staff.
