About Window AOV
Window AOVs turn specified façade windows into automatic smoke vents using chain or other actuators linked to a smoke-control panel. iComply fit, programme and maintain window AOV systems for lobbies, stairs and corridors across Greater Manchester and the North West, balancing free area, security and everyday window use where the design allows.
Surveys check frame strength, opening type, restrictors and whether the window can achieve the required free area. We install actuators cleanly, set stroke limits, interface to the panel and prove operation on backup power. Occupied blocks need tidy cabling and clear resident communication when windows will move during tests. Service visits re-lubricate, re-tension and replace tired actuators before they leave a window half-open in bad weather.
- ●Assessment of windows for AOV suitability
- ●Actuator install with correct stroke and mounting
- ●Panel integration and backup-power tests
- ●Maintenance that prevents seized or half-open windows

Window AOV FAQ
Can any window become an AOV?+
No — only suitable frames and free areas should be used. We will not force an unsafe or non-compliant retrofit.
Do window AOVs affect security?+
Design should consider security when vents open; we follow the specified products and control logic, including timed close where provided.
Are top-hung and side-hung both possible?+
Both appear in projects; actuator geometry must match the opening type and required free area.
