Whether you need a manual system for a small workshop or automatic detection throughout a multi-storey block, BS 5839 provides the framework for device siting, sound pressure levels, power supplies and zoning. We install conventional and addressable systems, interface with AOVs and door release where required, and train responsible persons on weekly tests. Maintenance visits keep false alarms down and reliability up. Documentation includes certificates, zone charts and logbook setup so the system remains manageable long after handover.

BS 5839 Fire Alarm FAQ
Which BS 5839 category do I need?+
It depends on premises type and fire risk assessment—for example L1–L5 for automatic life protection variants or M for manual systems. We recommend a category after survey.
Do you upgrade non-compliant older systems?+
Yes. We assess gaps against current practice and deliver proportionate upgrades rather than unnecessary full rip-outs where parts of the system remain sound.
Can BS 5839 systems link to smoke control?+
Cause-and-effect can trigger AOVs and other plant. We coordinate interfaces carefully so spurious signals do not open vents without a genuine fire signal.
