Dash rarely matches perfectly once it has weathered. We cut to a line, apply a butter coat and throw aggregate while it is live. A smear of mortar with a few stones pressed in is not a dash repair. If the dash is hollow across the elevation we say the patch will be the first of many. Low-level dash bridged over the DPC is cut back rather than replaced.
